Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Payroll Administrator in Salem, Virginia at our corporate headquarters.

As our Payroll Administrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of payroll. From managing complex time and earnings calculations to navigating multi-state tax regulations and regulatory reporting, your work will directly influence the overall operational excellence.

You will serve as a partner to HR, Accounting, and Operations, continuously improving payroll processes, leveraging data, and supporting projects that align with our growth trajectory and digital transformation goals. What We’re Looking For:

Minimum of three years’ experience with processing payroll.
Experience with UKG/Ultipro payroll system preferred.
Experience with multi-state payroll administration preferred.
Professional certification such as CPP, CPM, CPA is preferred, but not required.

Requirements for the Payroll Administrator position include:

Must have knowledge of Federal payroll tax laws and State payroll tax laws for those states within which staff are employed.
Must have a strong attention to detail in ensuring data integrity in payroll information.
Must be familiar with processing wage attachments.
Must be a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
Must be able to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization.
Must be well organized and have the ability to prioritize workload.
Must have the ability to work with time line constraints.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Must be able promote a positive customer experience.

Physical requirements must be met for the Payroll Administrator job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
