Summary
At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.
We are seeking a Construction Project Scheduler to join our team. This role is critical to developing, monitoring, and maintaining project schedules to support the successful and timely delivery of our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with project managers and field teams.
This role will be based in either Charlotte, NC, or Columbus, OH, with occasional travel to other project sites as needed.
What You'll Do:
Scheduling and Planning
- Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules for new and active projects using Oracle Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software.
- Analyze project scopes, timelines, and constraints to build realistic, achievable schedules.
- Regularly update schedules to reflect project progress, changes, and unforeseen conditions.
- Develop pursuit schedules for projects we are actively bidding, ensuring alignment with bid milestones and proposal requirements.
- Review and interpret all existing project schedules to identify resource conflicts, risks, and opportunities for optimization.
Collaboration with Project Teams
- Partner closely with project managers, engineers, and superintendents to gather real-time information on project progress, constraints, and potential delays.
- Support project teams in planning and coordinating resources—including labor, equipment, and materials—based on current and projected schedule needs.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Regularly monitor project schedules to track progress and proactively identify potential delays or disruptions.
- Provide clear, detailed schedule updates and reports to management, highlighting risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Analyze schedule variances, collaborate with project teams to identify root causes, and propose corrective actions to keep projects on track.
Cost and Resource Loading
- Integrate cost and resource data into project schedules to ensure accurate forecasting of labor, equipment, and material needs.
- Collaborate with the cost control team to align schedule activities with project budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow requirements.
Communication and Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all scheduling-related matters within project teams.
- Participate in project meetings to present scheduling updates, discuss potential issues, and review upcoming milestones.
- Ensure proper communication of schedule requirements to all relevant stakeholders.
Compliance and Best Practices
- Ensure all project schedules are developed and maintained in compliance with industry’s best practices, contract requirements, and company policies.
- Continuously improve scheduling techniques by staying current with industry standards, trends, and software advancements.
What We Look For:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction scheduling, with a focus on heavy civil construction or concrete paving projects.
- Proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6 and other scheduling software.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, resource allocation, and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret project data and create detailed, accurate schedules.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites as required.
- Experience in scheduling for large-scale concrete paving or heavy civil construction projects (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles, techniques, and industry best practices (preferred).
- Hands-on experience with cost and resource loading in Primavera P6 and similar scheduling tools (preferred).
- Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases) (required).
- Valid driver’s license (required).
