Summary
Hi-Way Paving is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Concrete Quality Control Team Lead. This role is ideal for someone with a background in concrete paving, quality control, or construction materials testing who is ready to take the next step into a leadership position.
As a QC Team Lead, you will work closely with the quality manager, project managers, and job-site managers to ensure concrete materials meet required specifications and quality control processes are followed effectively. You will also mentor and lead QC technicians while assisting with mix design preparation and compliance testing.
Travel Requirement: Up to 100% travel to job sites in Nashville, TN; Charlotte, NC; and Columbia, SC.
Responsibilities
- Assist the QC Manager in preparing mix designs for paving and related items, either onsite or at an offsite lab.
- Conduct and oversee quality control testing for concrete production and placement.
- Ensure daily compliance with quality control and assurance plans for paving and other related tasks.
- Review and refine QC/QA procedures to improve testing and documentation efficiency.
- Summarize all QC/QA results for all projects in a clear and concise format that can be presented to executive-level management.
- Review and understand specifications for all active projects, including material testing, material production, placement, finished product tolerances, payment formulas, etc.
- Monitor field operations to ensure proper handling, batching, and finishing of concrete.
- Collaborate with all quality control personnel working for Hi-Way Paving, including outside firms working on current projects.
- Communicate project specifications with production personnel before job start-up and during operation.
- Understand the project-specific book of standard drawings and specifications for each active project.
- Work closely with batch plant and production personnel to ensure quality at all levels of the work.
- Develop relationships with Owner-representatives on all projects.
- Report on projects daily, as required by QC Manager.
- Maintain accurate daily reports and quality documentation for all active projects.
- Lead and communicate effectively with crew members and project managers to maintain high-quality paving results.
- Champion safety on the job site, ensuring compliance with safety standards and promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications
- 3 years in a role with progressive knowledge in concrete paving, quality control/assurance or other related experience, preferred.
- Previous experience leading or contributing to a concrete paving crew at airfields or airports (preferred).
- Currently hold or able to attain ACI Level 1 concrete field/lab certification.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Willingness to travel up to 100% overnight to job sites.
- Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for nuclear density gauge operation.
- Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for field technician, plant technician and mix design tech, as required for states or jobs.
- Currently hold or be able to obtain other certifications to work in other states (e.g., TN, NC, SC, OH, VA, WV), if required.
- Ability to gain clearance in restricted/high-security zones. (Airport AOA, Military Bases, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical capabilities required are climbing, lifting, carrying a minimum of 75 lbs., standing, sitting, walking, entering confined spaces, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and performing repetitive actions
