Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Conventional Machinist in Salem, Virginia at our corporate headquarters for 2nd shift. The Conventional Machinist is responsible for fabricating, re-engineering, repairing and assembling metal parts and components using conventional machines in a "job shop" environment; performing repairs to equipment and parts that are broken or damaged to allow economical salvage of the components; fabricating, machining, and assembling components. Operations include boring, facing, milling, tapping, burning, welding and cutting. Seeking candidates with minimum two years experience machining on heavy equipment and components with portable machines and shop manual machines. Background in salvage related machining and experience operating manual machines. Welding skills a plus. Certificate of technical training and/or knowledge in machining and welding. Machining and welding certifications preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
Requirements for the Machinist position include:
Physical requirements must be met for the Machinist job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment.
