Summary
The Accounting Manager will oversee various accounting operations within our company, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This role involves managing a team of accounting professionals, supervising financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, proficiency with accounting systems, and a commitment to our core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership:
- Supervision: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team with a focus on fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.
- Delegation: Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring workload distribution is balanced and deadlines are met.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Payroll: Oversee the payroll process. Review and approve payroll reports. Ensure all employees are paid timely and accurately.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and present accurate financial statements, reports, and analyses, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with developing and monitoring budgets for construction projects, providing detailed financial forecasts and conducting variance analyses to manage project costs effectively.
- Project Accounting: Track and manage project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring alignment with project budgets and timelines.
- Internal Controls: Assist with the design and implementation of internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, including tax filings, audits, and industry-specific requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing accounting processes and implement best practices to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting. required, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferred.
- Experience with construction accounting, including project cost management, job costing, and contract management.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (Viewpoint/Vista).

Hi-Way Paving, Inc. is a general contractor in the heavy/civil construction space focusing on projects involving significant amounts of concrete paving on airfields.
We operate in several southeastern and midwestern states with current job sites in Tennessee and North Carolina as well as corporate/back-office operations in Ohio (our headquarters) and remote locations. We perform most of our work and services as a prime contractor but occasionally serve as a subcontractor on principal contracts with federal, state, and other governmental agencies as well as private owners.
