In 1977, Mark Schaffer set out to make a name for himself at 21 years old with only a backhoe and a dump truck.  What started as a one-man operation digging basements and foundations in his hometown of Norwalk, Ohio quickly grew into a small, family-owned underground utility company.  After graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University, Mark's son Jason joined him in managing the company as an estimator/project manager.  In 2005, Jason was named Vice President and Director of Operation of the company.  It was at this point that MSE began its growth and transition into one of Ohio's largest and most well-respected mass excavation and site development contractors.
